Diseases/Research Topics
Antitumor Agents, Cancer, Colon Cancer, Macrocyclic Peptides, Pancreatic Cancer

Dr. McAlpine's research program at San Diego State University involves the synthesis of macrocycles designed from natural products that are known inhibitors. By substituting specific amino acids in each position of the macrocycle, she and her colleagues explore their structure-activity relationship (SAR) with their target.

They currently have three anti-cancer projects being developed within their research program. The first project involves the synthesis of Sansalvamide A (San A) derivatives and their subsequent anti-cancer activity. The second project explores a unique series of histone deacetylaces (HDACs) that target pancreatic cancers. The third project centers on the synthesis and development of novel Triostin derivatives, which are also known anti-cancer agents.
