Special events have long been a tradition at the Moores Cancer Center. Some of these events have raised millions of dollars to benefit the work of the center, others are educational opportunities, and some are to thank our patients and their families.

This is the second year that the two-day cycling fundraiser will take place in San Diego. Pedal the Cause’s mission is to provide funding for the best cancer research ideas at San Diego's three National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers: the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and Salk Institute of Biological Studies. Collaborations between these complementary cancer centers create greater opportunities to fast-track research from the bench to the bedside.

Free Seminar: Revolutionary Breakthroughs in Men's Health

Join us for an evening of education as part of our My Answer to Cancer Educational Series, led by nationally renowned UC San Diego Health System physicians discussing the latest information and advances in men’s health, including men’s sexual health and new prevention and treatment strategies for prostate diseases. This is the second talk in this series and will feature Christopher Kane, MD, Mike Hsieh, MD, J. Kellogg Parsons, MD. The first talk was held in July with Drs. Razelle Kurzrock, Barbara Parker and Anne Wallace, who spoke on advances in personalized medicine and women’s health.

21st Annual Bruce Gorder UCSD 5k Walk for Melanoma

The annual Bruce Gorder UCSD 5K Walk for Melanoma raises awareness and funds for melanoma research at Moores Cancer Center and has provided more than $1.3 million to date. The walk is in memory of Bruce Brunner Gorder, who passed away on October 11, 1992, from melanoma at age 37. Hope lives on in the many families and friends who support their loved ones in the continuing fight against melanoma. Complimentary skin cancer screenings are offered to all registered participants to help promote the importance of early detection. For more information, see Gorder Walk.

There will be a question and answer period. The seminar is presented by David Weil, program manager, elder law and advocacy, for the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP).
