Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Where: Mandell-Weiss Eastgate Park, Jewish Community Center
When: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Don’t be late! The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party begins at 12 p.m. at Mandell-Weiss Eastgate Park, a part of the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla. Activities include the Mad Hatter’s Croquet Tournament, a silent auction, and hat decorating, followed by high tea served by the Queen of Hearts and her deck of cards. Local band Cathouse Thursday will provide musical entertainment. This event supports the Moores Cancer Center Healing Foods Kitchen program. 7th Annual Survivor Beach

Where: Scripps Institution of Oceanography

The 7th Annual Survivor Beach will kick off the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center’s Survivor Week on Sunday, June 2. Last year’s event broke record numbers generating 344 boards that stretched 2,595 feet across the beaches of La Jolla. The event precedes the annual Luau and Longboard Invitational on Aug. 18, which raises funds for research, patient care, and outreach and educational programs at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Advance Health Care Directives Workshop

Where: La Jolla campus of UC San Diego Health System (location and directions provided with confirmation)

Learn what an advance health care directive is and how to write one. You will also learn how to choose the best person to make decisions for you and how to be sure the person making decisions will know what you want. Register for this free workshop with Lori Johnson, RN, by calling 858-657-7350. We recommend attending with the person who you would like to be your decision maker, if possible.

This free workshop is open to patients, family members, UC San Diego staff, and the general public. It will also be offered on Sept. 12 and Dec. 12.

The workshop is presented in collaboration with several UC San Diego Health System departments: Nursing Education, Development, and Research; Risk Management; and the Ethics Committee.

 Luau

20th Annual Luau and Longboard Invitational

Where: Scripps Institution of Oceanography
When: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Luau and Longboard Invitational, which has raised more than $5 million to fund cancer research and patient care at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. This popular fundraiser kicks off with the Longboard Invitational at 7 a.m., where company-sponsored teams of four will be paired with a longboard surf legend to compete in the surfing contest. The competition will be followed by the luau fundraiser, which includes live music, Polynesian dancers, and live and silent auctions featuring one-of-a-kind surfboards, memorabilia and trips. The surfing competition is free for viewing; a ticket to the luau fundraiser is $150.
