Currently, Dr. Morton has two research projects focused on tobacco use behaviors and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) in American Indian populations.

One project is with Indian Health Council Inc. in Pauma Valley (San Diego County); the other is with State of California, Tobacco Control Section (TCS) to conduct a statewide survey of rural American Indians/Alaska Natives tobacco use behaviors. The statewide survey will be used by TCS as part of their tobacco surveillance and control mandate.

Dr. Morton is very involved in the American Indian community in San Diego and Riverside Counties, serving as chair of the Indian Health Council, Inc. IRB committee and consulting for other health intervention projects in both counties.
