STEPS YOU CAN TAKE - Quitting Smoking

It is estimated that over 17,200 lives were lost to cancer in California (Year 2000) because of tobacco use. All cancers caused by tobacco can be prevented. This is not always easy to do, and your first step may be to seek professionals who can help you through the entire process.

The California Smokers' Helpline -- a partnership between investigators at the Moores UCSD Cancer Center and the California Department of Health -- offers telephone counseling assistance and a range of other free services, such as self help materials and opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects.
