Cheryl L. Rock, Ph.D., R.D.

Cheryl L. Rock, Ph.D., R.D., is a professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine and a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center. 

She completed undergraduate training in nutrition and dietetics at Michigan State University, achieved a Master of Medical Science degree in clinical nutrition at Emory University, and was awarded her doctoral degree in nutritional sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Public Health.

Dr. Rock’s primary research efforts are focused on the role of nutritional and dietary factors in the development and progression of cancer, particularly breast and cervical cancer.  Her research efforts also address carotenoids, and eating pathology, weight management, and weight concerns in women. 

Dr. Rock is presently involved in NIH-funded randomized trials that are testing whether modifications in diet and level of physical activity can alter biological processes, body weight, and the progression of cancer.  She has served on numerous NIH and USDA review committees and currently serves on editorial boards for several peer-reviewed journals.  Dr. Rock is the author of more than 125 scientific papers and book chapters.
