Cancer Patient Support Group

Date: Every Tuesday

Cancer Caregiver Education and Support Group

Date: Every Wednesday
Time: 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Come together for conversation. Take a break and join others to develop connections with other caregivers and share helpful advice and tips.

Grupo Esperanza: Spanish-Speaking Patient Support

Dates: Second Wednesday of the month
Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Grupo Esperanza ("Hope Group") is a monthly support group for Spanish-speaking, male or female patients with any type of cancer. It is open to the community. The group begins with a guided imagery relaxation exercise, followed by introductions and open discussion and/or a writing exercise.

Breast Cancer Patient Education and Support

Date: Fourth Wednesday of every month (no group in August, and moves to third Wednesday in November and December)

For women with breast cancer. Each month an expert presents information on topics relevant to or selected by women with breast cancer. Before the presentation, participants share concerns, feelings, information, inspiration and hope.

CLL Education and Support

Date: First Wednesday of every month
Time: 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

A monthly educational seminar and support group for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Join us to hear from a CLL expert, and share and gain support from other CLL patients. During this seminar you'll:

  • Learn the latest information about CLL research and treatments
  • Discover ways to manage the challenges of cancer
  • Improve your communication skills and relationships
  • Gain strength by connecting with others.
  • Improve the quality of your life

Insomnia Treatment Group

Next Course: 5-week series began Monday, Aug. 4, 2014. Check back for next course dates. (Participants must commit to try to attend all sessions; this is not a drop-in group.)
Dates and Times: Mondays, 1:30–3:30 p.m.

Description: This group is led by a clinical psychologist who specializes in non-medication treatment for sleep issues. It may be appropriate if you have any of these issues: difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep; waking up in the mornings not feeling refreshed; poor sleep impacting how you feel and function during the day; want to avoid or minimize medication for sleep. Journey Through Grief Group

Next Course: 6-week series began Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 (participants must commit to try to attend all sessions; this is not a drop-in group)

Description: Please join us for a 6-week grief therapy group designed specifically for individuals who have been impacted by the death of a loved one. Participants will explore their reactions to loss, learn about the grieving process, and develop specific skills for coping with grief, within a trusting and nurturing environment. Yoga for Wellness

Date: Every Monday

Drop-in "gentle yoga" class for cancer patients, survivors, and family members. This adaptive yoga class is modified to each participant's ability and appropriate for beginners. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat if you are able to use one. (Download a PDF flier.)

Expressive Arts Workshop

Create an expression of your cancer experience using a variety of artistic media. It is free for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, but registration is required.

The current series is Aug. 11 to October 6, 2014, and focuses self-exploration and self-expression in a safe and non-judgmental, communal environment while creating mixed-media cards and decorating a box as a symbolic container with personal expressions of your cancer experience. Writing Through Cancer

An expressive writing program for people living with cancer. Join us to write together in a safe and supportive community of other cancer patients and survivors. We meet each week to explore and share our stories of the cancer experience. But why write? Research shows it’s good for you — it improves coping ability, helps you make sense of complex emotions, gain perspective and overcome the sense of isolation that sometimes accompanies a cancer diagnosis.

Couples Workshop

"Couples Coping with Cancer" is a free seminar for cancer patients and their spouses or partners. Offered twice per year, it is intended to create a safe place to explore the impact of cancer on their relationship. Garner uses a scientifically proven method that increases tehir partners' ability to cope and communicate throughout the cancer journey. It has been shown to benefit relationships and decrease depression, anxiety, pain, and the need for hospitalization. To register, call 858-822-5381. (Download a PDF flier.)
